Chris’s love for business and many of his “wise old sayings” where developed as a youth while working with his father in the family owned manufacturing company slightly to the west of Toronto Canada.  In his mid twenties, Chris started his own Canadian construction related manufacturing company.  After thirty cold Canadian winters Chris and his wife Marlene successfully emigrated to the USA and moved their four children to sunny and warm California where he began a career in real estate.  Several years later, in an effort to move closer to family remaining in the Toronto area but still avoiding the cold winters of his youth, they moved across the country once more and settled in Atlanta Georgia.

Shortly after settling into “The South”, Chris began promoting a new energy efficient fluorescent circline that resembled a glass donut.  It wasn’t pretty, but the hotel industry loved the amazing energy savings and longevity.  Maris Lighting was born.  Soon, one of the largest portfolios of Holiday Inn properties owned and operated by Bristol Hotels was sporting the new technology.  The Adams Mark chain followed shortly thereafter.  Red Roof, Candlewood and Jameson were not far behind.

Today, in his newly added role of Chief Evangelist, Chris travels the country consulting, educating and building relationships with hotel designers, developers, builders, owners, operators and their agents in regard to lighting.

In his role as CEO he brings the wisdom and lessons learned while in the field as Chief Evangelist, back to the company and helps guide its expansion and growth to meet the ever changing needs and opportunities of the hospitality industry.

Over the last twenty years the hospitality industry, lighting technology and Maris Lighting have all changed and evolved.  But, Chris’s commitment to the industry, the people in it, lighting in general and energy efficient lighting specifically continues to burn brightly… and efficiently.
